Landscapes

My landscape series is a set of oil paintings that records the quiet architecture of rural life: round bales, windmills, grazing cattle, and the low horizon that shapes daily rhythm in Southwest Oklahoma. Working on the land where my husband and I are beginning our homestead, I paint to ground myself — translating the slow, steady gestures of plain life into deliberate brushstrokes and measured composition.

These landscapes are inward and outward at once: an observation of weathered structures and cultivated fields, and a reflection on transition after leaving military service. The round bales and windmills that recur across the series act as touchstones — simple forms that anchor memory, labor, and place. Through color, texture, and spatial restraint I explore how routine, care, and the scale of the plains reshape perception and create a new domestic life.

Each painting is a study in attention: an attempt to absorb surroundings, mark change, and make a place feel like home.
